General Description

Location: The port of Turku is situated on the SW coast of Finland, at the mouth of the River Aurajoki, equidistant from Stockholm and St Petersburg.

General overview: The harbour is well protected, has a soft clay bottom, no tide and only a slight current. It is kept open throughout the year with the use of icebreakers.

The port has a total land area of 225ha, 5 berths with a total quayage of 1,150m with depths 7.6-10.0m.

Facilities available for dry bulk, container, and liquid cargoes, specializing in Ro-Ro and passenger traffic.

Cargoes:

• Exports are timber, paper, granite, agricultural products, electronics and diesel engines.
• Imports include iron, machinery, motor vehicles, forage, oils and chemicals.

Traffic figures: Approx. 2,700 vessels, 3,400,000t of cargo, 23,000TEU and 3,600,000 passengers handled annually.

Load line zone:

• Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length
• Winter Seasonal Area for ships of 100m or less in length.
• Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31
• Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

• Main harbour: LOA 250m // Draught 10m.

• Pansio Oil Harbour: LOA 170m, draught 9m.

• STX shipyard fairway no length limitations (Draught 9m)
