General Description

Location: The Port of Aalesund is situated on the NW coast of Norway, 380km N of Bergen.

General overview: The Port of Aalesund is the largest port in the area and handles all types of vessels. It has become Europe's largest lay-up harbor with mooring facilities for vessels of all sizes. The port is open year-round and divided into the northern and southern harbors with depths ranging from 10.0-16.0m.

Tanker facilities are available, including four berths operated by A/S Norske Shell, Mobil Oil, A/S Norske Esso, Norsk Olje A/S, and Norske Fina A/S. The port has one commercial quay, Skansekaien, which provides protection for a small inner harbor with several smaller quays.

Additionally, there are three lay-up berths that can accommodate any size vessel.

The Port of Aalesund handles a variety of cargoes:

• Its exports mainly consist of fish, fish products, hydraulic machinery, shipbuilding products, and furniture.
• On the other hand, its imports primarily comprise salt, fuel, lubricating oil, steel, machinery, and manufactured goods.
