General Description
Location: The Port of Abashiri is situated at the mouth of Abashiri Kawa, on the W side of Abashiri Wan.
General overview: The Port of Abashiri is a port of entry, and the largest port on the N coast of Hokkaido.
It is a base for the Sea of Okhotsk fishing fleet due to its rich fishery resources, and has an increasing trade in lumber imports. It also handles Bulk & Breakbulk, Containers, Project and General cargoes.
It consists of 5 wharves, including a Passenger Terminal. Many cruise ships also visit the port.
Traffic figures: Approx. 800,000t of cargo handled annually.
